Business Profile

Welcome: . T. Coventry is a tobacconist and bookseller. There has been a tobacconist located at this site for over 100 years (from 1906) and G. T. Coventry provides a complete range of tobacco leaf products and smoker's requisites to its customers.

310 must be one of the oldest retail outlets in Scotland. In 1720 it was a mill (horse-powered: they ran up and down to the beach); in 1861 it was a chemist and druggists, and then a hatter in the 1890s.

Products stocked are sourced from over 30 different countries and GT's are confident that even the most discerning customer will find something of interest within the 'emporium'. From snuff, hand and machine made cigars, chewing bits, twist, ready rubbed and hand rolling: if it's made from tobacco (and available within the UK) then GT's probably sells it.

About: GT's also offers a full range of smoker's requisites: lighters (including Zippo, Givenchy, St Dupont and Corona), pipes (including Falcon; Peterson; Chacom; Savinelli; Nording; Comoy and Dr Plumb), cigarette holders, cases and making machines, tips and papers, humidors and cigar cutters.

Through the back there is also a second hand bookshop covering a plethora of subjects but particularly centred on Scottish and non-fiction genres.

GT's is currently under the stewardship of Maclean John Dorward who took over in 2002. Having previously been a chef, restaurateur, research scientist and college lecturer he went back to college to take a degree in entrepreneurship, resulting in his identification of a business such as GT's as ticking all the right boxes. A note of thanks has to go to Mr D. T. Wilson, one of the regulars, who filmed and produced the video.
